What is RSS?
If you are here you have probably seen this icon around and wondered what it is:
RSS is a technology that allows you to receive updates from web sites without having to go and visit the website. Rather than reproducing or summarizing definitions here, I’d refer you to Wikipedia which gives more background on web feeds.
How can I receive a web feed?
If you don’t already have a feed reader just click on the subscribe button to the left and follow the directions - you will be able to click on google, aol or many other feed readers which will take you straight to a sign up page. Personally I use google and have it on my Google homepage. You can do the same in Yahoo or many other custom home pages. If you already have news or weather delivered to your home page you may already be using RSS without realising it.
If you don’t want this content on a home page, to take advantage of RSS you will need a special program (or service) for reading feeds. There are a lot of such programs, both free and commercial, and some browsers are set up already to receive feeds. Search for ‘feed reader’ and you will be given a plethora of choices. I’ve had no problems with Google’s free offering, Google Reader
